Feel at Home in Taguig City

Comprising 28 barangays and home to more than 800,000 residents, Taguig is probably one of the most dynamic and progressive cities in Metro Manila. It is situated on the western shore of Laguna de Bay, bordered to the south, southwest, and west, respectively, by Muntinlupa, Parañaque, and Pasay, while to the northeast are the municipalities are Cainta and Taytay, and to the north are Makati, Pateros, and Pasig.

Taguig was a former fishing and agricultural municipality that experienced massive urbanization during the 20th century. In the 1990s, large parts of Taguig’s Fort Bonifacio were sold to the private sector through the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), and Bonifacio Global City (BGC) was born. This massive mixed-use real estate project is master-planned by Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation, a joint venture by the BCDA with Ayala Land and the Evergreen Holdings. BGC is now one of Metro Manila’s most important central business districts (along with the Makati CBD and Ortigas Center) and is home to numerous high-rise condo developments, office skyscrapers, shopping malls, international schools, embassies, public parks, theaters, and an internationally recognized hospital.

Other parts of Fort Bonifacio were sold to the private sector as well for redevelopment, most notably McKinley Hill, a 50-hectare mixed-use township, and McKinley West, a 34.5-hectare similarly themed township on the former JUSMAG property along Lawton Avenue. Both of these projects are developed by Megaworld Corp. Meanwhile, the former FTI estate along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) was acquired by Ayala Land, which is now Arca South—a 74-hectare mixed-use, transit-oriented development that is touted as Taguig’s next business district. Once completed, Arca South will be home to residential developments of Ayala Land Premier, Alveo Land, and Avida Land; office towers; shopping malls; and an integrated transport terminal that will serve as a unified terminal serving more than 2,000 buses entering Metro Manila from the south every day.

While Taguig is a fully fledged business and financial hub, it is still very much rooted to its residential past. The city is home to numerous subdivisions and gated communities, most notably in such areas as Barangays Western Bicutan, Pinagsama, Ususan, and South, Central, and North Signal Villages. In fact, Brgy. Ususan’s Acacia Estate by DMCI Homes, is a massive residential development home to low-rise and mid-rise condo developments and at least three horizontal or subdivision projects where house and lots for sale and for rent can be found. Meanwhile, in Brgy. Santa Ana is Camella Ellisande, a gated community developed by Manny Villar’s Vista Land. Other notable residential areas in Taguig include AFPOVAI Village and Signal Village.

Transport wise, Taguig is well connected to other parts of Metro Manila. C5 Road is its main artery, which connects the city to SLEX and the rest of the south. Once the C5 extension bridge is finished, commute time to Las Piñas and Cavite will be reduced as well. C5 Road also connects Taguig to Pasig and Quezon City to the north. Most recently, the government broke ground for its Southeast Metro Manila Expressway project, a 34-km expressway that will run from Skyway/FTI to Batasan Complex in Quezon City.
