Parañaque – The City of Diversity, Rich Culture, and Relentless Growth
Parañaque is one of the oldest cities in the Philippines. It is now more than 400 years old and was founded by Spanish missionaries in 1572 during the American occupation of the Philippines. Today, it is a sought after address due to its progress and stature as a successful city in the south of National Capital Region (NCR) or Metro Manila.
Bordered by Pasay to its north, Taguig to its northeast, Muntinlupa to its southeast, Las Piñas to its southwest, and Manila Bay to its west, Parañaque is accessible. Traveling to and from it is practically stress-free, as major thoroughfares like the Manila-Cavite Expressway, Metro Manila Skyway, and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) are a few minutes’ drive outside its vicinity. Its accessibility has transformed its streets into residential communities, commercial centers, and corporate offices over the years. In addition, it is now an important center for trade and business despite it being predominantly residential. Due to its economic success, it is the preferred home of many Filipino families and expatriates who often fly in and out of the country, as it is near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Parañaque was converted into a city from being a municipality in February 1998. It has a total population of 665,822 according to the 2015 census of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). There are 16 barangays in the city, which are divided into two districts. District 1 comprises Baclaran, Don Galo, La Huerta, San Dionisio, San Isidro, Sto. Niño, Tambo, and Vitalez while District 2 include BF Homes – the village that has the most number of inhabitants, Don Bosco, Marcelo Green, Merville, Moonwalk, San Antonio, San Martin de Porres, and San Valley.
Providing relentless growth to its residents and visitors who want to experience the “south lifestyle,” it is a highly competitive city with three titles such as ‘The Fashion Capital of the Philippines,” “The City of Lights,” and “The Bay City.” Its consistent growth has paved the way for commercial establishments, local and multinational corporations, shopping malls, upmarket hotel-casinos, first-rate schools, restaurants, cafés, and premier residential communities to be built within its confines. In addition, it is an all-inclusive home, making it a non-discriminatory home of humble albeit affluent families, business executives, entrepreneurs – young and old, prominent artists, politicians, and expatriates.
The love of culture is apparent in Parañaque through its initiative to hold several festivals throughout the year. Caracol, a festival that revolves around boats, and Sunduan, which is held every month of November during the Araw ng Parañaque celebration, are among the most popular events in the city. These celebrations are practiced to sustain the traditional community spirit within the city. Aside from its citywide festivals, it also has famous landmarks residents and even those who live in other cities often visit. The Redemptorist Church in Baclaran where the Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is located is a popular church among devotees. In fact, Wednesday has been tagged as “Baclaran Day,” as most devotees flock to the church on the said day.
Home to many developments, Parañaque is ideal for those whose preference is the modern and upscale lifestyle. It houses world-famous hotels and resort-casinos such as The City of Dreams Manila, a 6.2-hectare luxury integrated resort and casino complex on Aseana Avenue; Okada Manila, a 44-hectare hotel-resorts complex in the Entertainment City; and Solaire Resort and Casino, a premier entertainment complex along the Bay City. These developments, aside from their contribution to the upward economic growth of the city, serve as go-to areas of those who want to experience luxury and premium amusement in Metro Manila.
Mostly residential, there are for rent and for sale homes in Parañaque. Apart from its themed condominium developments like the Raya Gardens Condominium, the Balinese-inspired residential urban retreat in West Service Road in Merville, and Azure Urban Resort Residences, the country’s first tropical-themed residential community that features a man-made beach, it is home to prime residential villages that promise nothing less than comfortable life despite being in the metro. In addition, most of its barangays are strategically near commercial centers and establishments for convenience.
Accessible through the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and c5-Extension, Merville is a prime barangay in Parañaque. Its accessibility makes it an ideal home particularly to residents who work in the Makati Central Business District (CBD), Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig, Ortigas Center, and other nearby financial centers.
Due to the convenience it brings, Merville is a preferred place of residence in Parañaque; providentially, it is home to thousands of residential properties. There are for rent and for sale houses in Merville for those who want to move into it.

Formerly called as Las Piñas-Parañaque BF Homes, BF Homes Parañaque Subdivision has the most number of residents in the city. According to the 2015 census of the PSA, it has a total population of 88,035. Initially, it catered to middle class Filipino families, but over the years, its residents have become diverse. Today, it is noted for its high concentration of expatriates.
In the 1970s, BF Homes Parañaque gained its reputation as the preferred place of residence. These establishments are unheard of during that decade.
