For those looking to sell or buy a home, having the right real estate agent can make a big difference. These are the kind of professionals that not only do their work the best they can but also go the extra mile. They are well connected, understand the local market and can help you negotiate the best housing deal possible.

But not all real estate agents are created equal. There are those that are self involved and act too busy all the time. They don’t care that the biggest financial transaction of your entire life is at stake. But how do you know for sure that you hired a bad real estate agent?

Here are 7 glaring signs you have a bad real estate agent:

1. Lack of communication

The most common problem home buyers complain about their real estate agents is difficulty getting in touch with them. It is their duty to remain in regular communication with you throughout the buying or selling process since they work for you. They must answer calls or quickly respond to emails and text messages.

2. Doesn’t listen

Real estate agents should show a sincere interest in your housing needs and listen to how you want to fulfill those needs. Agents who agree with you on everything and don’t offer any guidance are only eager to please. It shows that they aren’t committed to doing the best possible job at representing your interests in the real estate market.

3. They stand you up

It’s acceptable for real estate agents to have other clients and commitments, but failing to communicate in advance is not. Their time is not more important than yours. Check if the reason is valid but if you think it’s fishy, better make some changes.

4. Failure to use all resources

Real estate agents have a number of tools at their disposal to market your home to the public and help you find a new one that meets your needs. On the other hand, incompetent agents will often only use one or two resources, thinking this is enough. If agents don’t list the home your selling anywhere that may help draw more interest to it, including putting the listing on real estate websites, into local newspapers and even distributing flyers to homes in the area, you have a problem.

5. Too much pressure

Real estate agents that push you in a particular direction that you don’t want are a big red flag. They may be more interested in their commission rather than help you find a home you can afford.

6. Wrong attitude

Confidence in ability shouldn’t translate to rudeness. It’s your right to ask questions and no matter how basic they may be, they should be answered in a proper manner without using a lot of confusing jargon. Plus, real estate agents should behave professionally on your behalf.

7. You’re running in circles

It shouldn’t take months for real estate agents to find you the home you want or at least get you options close to what you want. If you feel that your time is being wasted after giving all the information needed, it may be time to find a new agent.

If you see any of these signs with the real estate agent you are working with, your real estate transaction is definitely destined for problems. Don’t be fooled and don’t settle for a real estate agent who doesn’t meet your needs. Instead, look for one that exceeds them.
